Comala,
the “White Town of the Americas”, is very different to the Comala that
JuanRulfo made famous in his novel Pedro Paramo. The real one, that
of Colima state, is happy and is characterized by its houses of clean
and exact outline, where the white of its facades along with the read
roofs and the details of iron-works Alejandro Rangel Hidalgo style,
and the abundant vegetation, they all together create an incomparable
atmosphere.
In1998, Comala was declared Zone of Historical Monuments by the governor of Colima State. In 2002, it was chosen to form a part of the national program “Magic towns of Mexico”. This program is led by the Tourism Ministry (Sectur). Its goals are: to increase the economic development and cultural heritage, to restore, to rescue and to reinforce the urban image of the population respecting its typology, traditions and customs; to create new projects that complement the infrastructure, to create conscience among the residents about Comala’s value and to increase the touristic stay and occupation by promoting all the participant towns to the national and internatinal level.

| Headed
by the Comala Municipality and the Colima State Goverment and throug
the Tourism Ministry, the “Touristic Committee Pueblo Blanco” was created,
whose objective is to promote the generation of a program that defines
the actions that help to preserve the identity and the cultural patrimony
of Comala. Five groups were derivied from that organization, Works and
Infrastructure, Social and Communitarian Organization, Bussiness and
Financing Support, Tourist Promotion and Culture and Patrimony.
