SAN GABRIEL CAVES
Time to get there: 1 hour and 30 minutes from Colima.
To get to the San Gabriel Caves you need to get to Ixtlahuacán and then drive 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) on a rough dirt road towards La Virgen. Once you are in the town you should ask for a guide’s help to access the place. These caves are approximately 15 meters high (49.2 feet) and they have a big hall with stalactites and stalagmite formations. It is believed that this cave used to be a Prehispanic ceremonial center, since there is a small semicircular pyramid formed by loose stones settled in the ground’s slope.
