MUSEUMS ROUTE

The visitor will have the opportunity to walk through various cultural buildings which narrate our City´s Capital and surrounding history. Through the halls and archeological pieces exhibited you will go back to the origins of this passionate tourist destination.

Regional Museum of History:

Since 1988, the place has been the Regional Museum of History’s headquarters thanks to the donation of two important collections: The Stavenhagen and the Velasco, and archeological collections of Colima and the region.

How to get there: It is located on the corner of Hidalgo and Reforma Streets, beside the Jardín Libertad (Libertad Park).

Alfonso Michel University Art Gallery:

Two ancient big houses from the time of Porfirio Diaz were adapted as a gallery-museum. It exhibits a rich heritage which includes pieces of pictorial, graphic, sculptural and photographic nature.

How to get there: It is located on the corner of Vicente Guerrero and Constitución Streets.
Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday: from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday: from 10:00 to 1:00 p.m

María Teresa Pomar University Popular Arts Museum:

It has more than two thousands pieces from different artistic branches; you will find musical instruments, masks, textiles, dance costumes, basketwork, pottery, hard fibers, popular painting, etc.

 

How to get there: From the Jardín Libertad, go one block in a Northern direction, you will find the Gabino Barreda Street. Take that Street and keep going for about 7 blocks heading north until you are on Manuel Gallardo Street. It is on this corner where the Museum is located.
Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday: from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Maria Ahumada de Gomez Western Cultures Museum:

In the lower level you will observe an introduction to Middle America and Western Middle America. In the upper level there is an archeological collection with pieces of different categories such as religion, architecture, activities among others.

How to get there: Starting from the Jardín Núñez, located in the City Center, take the Francisco I. Madero Street and walk towards East until you get to Pedro Galván Road. Once there go north until you get to Ejército Nacional Avenue, where you will find the Maria Ahumada de Gomez Western Cultures Museum. For additional reference, it is located beside the “Casa de la Cultura” (Cultural House).
Schedule: Tuesday to Sunday: From 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Jorge Chávez Carrillo, Contemporary Art Museum: o

It was opened in November 2002 as a tribute to Colima’s painter José Chávez Carrillo. It exhibits more than a 100 piece collection by Isaac Masri among which, stands out art pieces of masters Rafael Zamarripa, Gil Correa, Javier Fernández, José Luis Cuevas and Jorge Chávez Carillo.

How to get there: Starting from the Jardín Libertad, walk in a Southeast direction taking the Santos Degollado Street which is one of the Streets right beside the Jardín Libertad, follow this direction for about 5 blocks until you arrive to the Gristelda Alvarez Metropolitan Regional Park, next to which, you will see the Jorge Chávez Carrillo Contemporary Art Museum.
Schedule: Tuesday to Sunday: from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Griselda Alvarez Museum:

This museum suggests a tour which includes 3 aspects of her life: her condition as a woman (figure woman), her literary work (culture and words) and her political career (power and service).

How to get there: Starting from the Jardín Libertad, we will take a southwest direction on Santos Degollado Street. Walk down for about 5 blocks until you get to the Griselda Alvarez Metropolitan Regional Park. The museum is located inside the park premises.
DSchedule: Tuesday to Friday: from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday: from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
