Colima is located in the West Center of Mexico. In the North, East and West it borders with the State of Jalisco; in the Southeast it borders with the State of Michoacán and in the South with the Pacific Ocean. It has a surface of 5,455 kilometers (3,387.55 miles) occupying third place among the smallest states of Mexico. Colima has an archipelago: “The Revillagigedo” formed by the Benito Juárez, Claríon, San Benedicto and Roca Partida islands. They are all from volcanic origin.

RELIEF

Three fourths of Colima´s territory is covered by mountains and hills. Colima is located within the Sierra Madre del Sur Mountain range which is formed by four Mountain Ranges.

HYDROGRAPHY

The most important Hydrographic Basins are: The Cihuatlán, Coahuayana and Armería Rivers. The Cihuatlán River serves as a border with the State of Jalisco, The Coahuayana River with the State of Michoacán and The Armería River begins in Jalisco and runs 294 km (182.574 miles) until it reaches Boca de Pascuales in the Municipality of Tecomán.

The most important lagoons are: Cuyutlán, Alcuzahue and Amela, located in the Coastal Zone of the Municipalities of Manzanillo, Armería and Tecomán respectively.

In the surrounding area of the Fire Volcano, we find other lagoons such as The Maria, Carrizalillo, El Jabalí and The Calabozo, considered the most beautiful and attractive lagoons in the State.
